Glasgow Warriors prop Alex Allan has been called into the Scotland squad for the autumn Tests as “precautionary injury cover”.

With fellow looseheads Alasdair Dickinson and Gordon Reid continuing their rehabilitation from respective hamstring and back injuries, Allan, 24, has been summoned to the national side’s training base at Oriam in Edinburgh.

Allan made his Scotland debut as a second-half substitute for Reid in the 24-6 win over the USA on the 2014 summer tour. He played previously for Edinburgh Accies and Edinburgh Rugby before making the switch to Glasgow.

The Scots open their autumn campaign with a tough fixture against Australia at BT Murrayfield on 12 November. They then face Argentina as the same venue a week later before concluding the series against Georgia at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock, on 26 November.
