AYR all but guaranteed finishing the regular BT Premiership season in top spot with this 12-try demolition of already-relegated Selkirk, writes Matt Vallance at Millbrae.
Dominant up front, Ayr had the bonus point tied-up in a shade over 20 minutes, through tries by skipper Ross Curle, Peter McCallum, Frazier Climo and Blair Macpherson – all converted by Climo.
They stretched their lead to 45-0 at half-time, courtesy of a Craig Gossman double, and a try from Grant Anderson, with Climo converting the Anderson touch-down. The one-way traffic continued after the break, McCallum going over for his second in 48 minutes to bring up the half century.
Macpherson then scored his second try, Climo adding the extras, before McCallum completed his hat-trick, with try number ten, Climo again converting. Then, in the final ten minutes, replacement scrum-half Jack Preston skipped through for a fine solo try, before, in the final move of the match, Richard Dalgleish crossed the line, Climo converting with the last kick of the game.
Out-played, Selkirk never gave up, but, on the day they were blown away.
