Edinburgh RUGBY bosses have offered international centre Ben Cairns an opportunity to stake a claim for a contract extension at the club.
The 27-year-old missed all of last season with a cruciate ligament injury and returned to action in December. However, he suffered a fresh knee injury after only six games for the club and an appearance for Scotland A.
Now, despite his current deal coming to an end, he will have the support of the club as he continues his rehabilitation following another operation.
Edinburgh Rugby managing director David Davies explained the decision, saying, “He’s a local boy who has been a long-standing servant of Edinburgh Rugby and I believe that commitment merits our efforts to give him the best possible chance of earning a new contract.”
Cairns said: “I’m really grateful for the opportunity to stay part of the squad. I’m confident I can get back to full fitness and the form I know I’m capable of.”
