Rugby: Barnes gracious despite defeat by Selkirk
EDINBURGH ACCIES coach Ian Barnes watched his side lose 21-6 away to Selkirk last night then praised the Borderers for the way they dominated the second half, writes COLIN RENTON.
Accies were only three points adrift at the break with a David O'Hagen penalty restricting the deficit to 6-3 as the teams changed ends.
However, the conditions deteriorated and Accies had only another penalty from O'Hagen to show for their second-half efforts, while Selkirk bagged three tries from set-pieces, including two pushover scores which exposed Accies' front row frailties.
Callum Johnston, Martin Murray and Andrew Renwick had a score apiece to add to Scott Hendrie's two first-half penalties to help Selkirk leapfrog Watsonians and Heriot's and continue their climb up the league table.
Reflecting on the second half domination of the home side, Barnes said: "We were just left for dead. We couldn't get out of our own half."
