Rowing: Future bright for Callum McBrierty
EDINBURGH'S Callum McBrierty is one of two talented young rowers who have been inducted into the East of Scotland Institute of Sport.
Looking ahead to London 2012, it is the first time the sportscotland institute of sport network has taken on rowers.
As well as George Watson's pupil Callum, 17, Borderer Jack Leask, 16, who attends George Heriot's has joined the East of Scotland Institute while Balfron's Rosie Young, 18, and Chris Rae, 20, from Giffnock have joined the West of Scotland institute.
McBrierty and Young brought home four golds and one silver medal between them at the European Junior Rowing Championships in France last year.
McBrierty, who competes in the coxless four, said: "There is a lot involved in training and preparation so the East of Scotland Institute of Sport will be a big help."
Scottish Rowing's National High Performance Co-ordinator Lee Boucher added: "With London 2012 on the horizon the future looks bright for rowing in Scotland."
