Round-up
EAST OF SCOTLAND CUP, 2ND ROUND Bo'ness United 8 Kirkcaldy YM 1
DESPITE their underdog tag, it was Kirkcaldy who got the first goal in 16 minutes when a Ruairidh McQueen free-kick sailed into the Bo'ness box. Keeper Jordan Longmuir got a fist to the cross but he only succeeded in punching the ball off Chris Ireland and it trundled over the Bo'ness goal line. A good start for the Fifers but in 27 minutes Nicky Walker intercepted a short Kyle Dammer pass-back and, as he rounded Roy Ness, the Kirkcaldy keeper pulled his feet from under him. The referee awarded the penalty, sent off Ness and Andy Shirra slotted the spot-kick past Robert Martin. Martin started the game outfield but with no substitute goalkeeper, the defender drew the short straw to pull on the yellow jersey.
It got worse for YM when, only four minutes later, David Morrison guided home a side-footed shot from the edge of the box via the Kirkcaldy post. Five minutes before the break, the tie was effectively over when Jamie Nixon hit a low shot towards the goal and Nicky Walker flicked the ball past Martin from close in. Six minutes into the second half, Jamie Nixon did get on the score sheet as he blasted a partially cleared corner into the Kirkcaldy net. It seemed now to be a case of how many goals Bo'ness would score and, in 55 minutes, Danny Main got onto the end of an Andy Shirra corner to head in at the far post. It was six in 66 when Walker got his second goal after Robert Martin couldn't cut out a Steven Kiczynski cross and the point-blank header in front of an open goal was efficiently dispatched. Kirkcaldy had a couple of decent attempts at goal when both Craig Smith and Jamie Gilfillan narrowly missed the target but in 75 minutes normal service was resumed when Bo'ness scored again. An Andy Shirra pass sent Walker clear and the Bo'ness frontman slammed the ball in for his hat-trick.
Robert Martin may have picked the ball out of the net seven times but he made some significant saves to keep the score down. However, just on the final whistle he was beaten once more as Walker completed a great individual performance when he connected with a Chris Donnelly cross to head goal number four for himself and goal number eight for Bo'ness.
