Ross leaves them behind

LASSWADE distance running prospect Ross Matheson scored an impressive victory in the men's under-17 race as Aldershot's Steph Twell celebrated her long-awaited debut for Scotland in style by retaining her women's title at the Gateshead International Cross Challenge.

Matheson was 14 seconds clear of his nearest rival in the youths' 6K race.

England's Mike Skinner won the men's race in 28:14 with former Queen Margaret student Al Hay (Central) sixth in 29:00.
