Seven county players in Bradburn’s Scotland squad

And the Kiwi, who formally takes charge for the first time on Tuesday, is convinced there is also an “abundance of talent” waiting in the wings to push the established men.

Skipper Kyle Coetzer has been made available by Northants to lead the side, while Sussex star Matt Machan is also named in the 14-man squad along with in-form Durham batsman Calum MacLeod. There is a first senior cap call for Glamorgan youngster Ruaidhri Smith who scored a maiden first-class half-century earlier this week.

Local talent is represented by Stoneywood-Dyce all-rounder Michael Leask and Carlton pace bowler Ali Evans who impressed for the Highlanders in the recent North Sea Pro Series.

Bradburn said: “We are pleased to name a very strong Scotland side for what is an important series for both countries. The recently completed North Sea Pro series has provided valuable international exposure to a large group of aspiring Scottish-based players.”

He added: “Locally-based players throughout the series were closely followed and we have rewarded strong performances with selection against Netherlands, joining the majority of our English County based players who are available for this series.”

Bradburn, who arrived in Scotland yesterday, went on: “I am very much looking forward to rolling my sleeves up and getting on with the job.

“My initial visit during the England game in May confirmed for me the abundance of talent and skill that we have in the extended Scotland squad,” Bradburn added.

“I sense a strong desire from the players and staff to continually improve and I look forward to setting about building on the significant progress Cricket Scotland has made.”

The three-match series against the Netherlands takes place at Titwood, Glasgow, next Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
