Romano Denneboom waits to see if Hibs want him
Dutch trialist Romano Denneboom was last night waiting to hear whether he will be offered a contract at Hibs after a short trial with the club last week.
The 29-year-old spent "a couple of days" at the Easter Road side's East Mains training ground ahead of Sunday's SPL opener against Motherwell but is no longer with the club, according to his agent Karel Jansen.
Denneboom has an impressive pedigree, having come close to a move to PSV Eindhoven three years ago during a career which has also seen him land one cap for the Netherlands in a 3-0 friendly win against Liechtenstein in September 2004.
Jansen is now awaiting discussions with Hughes or chairman Rod Petrie over whether a deal is a possibility for the former Heerenveen and NEC Nijmegen player, who is available on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Twente Enschede. However, with initial reports indicating that manager John Hughes may spend up to a fortnight running the rule over the 6'2'' marksman, the brevity of Denneboom's stay in the capital could suggest a move is unlikely.
Jansen said: "We don't have any news on what will happen with Romano and Hibs at the moment. He was with them training for a couple of days last week but has left already. We are in contact with the club and are waiting for discussions with the manager or the chairman. But we do not have any indications what will happen. We will need to wait and see what the outcome is."
Hughes has indicated he would like to add to the prolific trio of Anthony Stokes, Derek Riordan and Colin Nish with the arrival of another striker and some unconfirmed reports have also linked him with a possible move for former Blackburn Rovers trialist Rodrigo Branco, a Brazilian.
