Roman Bednar and Rudi Skacel are named in Czech squad

TWO former Hearts players will be back in Scotland on international duty next week, with Roman Bednar and Rudi Skacel both named in the Czech Republic squad for Wednesday's friendly match at Hampden.

Striker Bednar, now with West Brom, and Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky are the two British-based players in the 18-man squad which has Schalke's 20-year-old midfielder, Jan Moravek, as the only newcomer.

Midfielder Skacel, now with Larissa, is also in national head coach Michal Bilek's squad.

Petr Cech has been left out of the squad, after the Chelsea goalkeeper was carried off with a calf-injury during Wednesday's 2-1 defeat away to Inter Milan in the Champions League. Cech went off in the second-half at the San Siro after picking up the injury as he collected a cross.

Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti could offer no timetable for Cech's return to action until more tests had been carried out on the player. Despite the loss of Cech, Bilek has named only two goalkeepers, both of whom had unsuccessful spells in English football.

Hertha Berlin 30-year-old Jaroslav Drobny, who has two caps, spent time with Fulham and Ipswich Town without making a competitive first-team appearance before heading for the German Bundesliga club.

Michal Danek, 26, has been with Czech side Viktoria Pilsen since 2006 but had seven months on loan to West Brom in 2008 without making the first-team.

The previous year, Danek, who is as yet uncapped, claimed that Celtic were interested in his signature, although that was played down by then Parkhead manager, Gordon Strachan.

Craig Levein's first game in charge of Scotland is a dress rehearsal for matches between the sides in the forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers, the Czechs second seeds in Group I behind European champions Spain .

The friendly had already been organised before the Czechs and Scots were drawn together in qualifying along with title-holders Spain, Lithuania and Liechtenstein.

Scotland play in the Czech Republic on Friday, 8 October, with the return group match on Saturday 3 September, 2011.
