Richie Berrington wreaks revenge for Saltires

RICHIE Berrington produced a superb all-round display yesterday as Scotland took revenge on Kenya in Abu Dhabi in their third Twenty20 World Cup warm-up.

The Greenock star smashed 18 runs off six balls before claiming three vital wickets (3-17) to help boost morale after two humiliating 10-wicket defeats to the Africans last week.

Now Berrington believes the Saltires are ready for tomorrow's Twenty20 World Cup qualifying opener against USA. The 22-year-old, who also played a crucial role in last month's Intercontinental Cup win over the Kenyans, declared: "

Everybody played a part and there is a great spirit among the squad. Hopefully we can take this form into the tournament."

Gavin Hamilton, promoted to third, produced the backbone of the innings with a solid half-century. The skipper's 51-ball 58 featured seven boundaries and a six but his departure sparked a wobble which saw three wickets fall for just one run. It was left to Berrington and Jan Stander to propel the Scotland total to 149-6 with some brilliant hitting.

Stander dealt exclusively in boundaries with a six and two fours while Berrington faced only six deliveries for his unbeaten 18. Kenya then reached 133 for 9.

&#149 Scotland will face Bangladesh in a one-off ODI this summer. The official international is at Titwood, Glasgow, on 19 July.
