Redpath end United's bid to retain cup
REDPATH ALBION played host to East of Scotland Amateur Cup holders Links United at Pilrig Park and it was the Caledonian League side who failed in their quest to retain the prestigious silverware.
The Lothian and Edinburgh Amateur FA outfit, who are lingering below the top half of the Edinburgh East division, swept into a deserved lead in 17 minutes when a flowing move ended with Enda Connelly feeding Gordon McCreadie in the area and he steered the ball in to make 1-0.
Links matched everything Albion threw at them and equalised after Albion defender Gavin McCall's trip on the edge of the area was deemed a penalty which Links converted to make the score 1-1.
In a hard-fought second period, Albion at no time were overawed by their Caledonian League Premier Division opponents and Willie Minto grabbed a second goal in the 64th minute to seal a tremendous 2-1 win.
Redpath Albion: Darren Wallace, Paul Ferguson, Enda Connelly, Richard Irvine, Gordon McCreadie, Andy Brown, Willie Minto, Danny McQuaid, David Kelly, Alan Morrison, Ryan Weir, David Stevenson, Andy Fraser, Gavin McCall, Gary Kerr, Sean Moore.
