Rankin reckons Dundee High deserved better

DUNDEE High director Ian Rankin hailed his battlers after they had made title-chasing Currie struggle all the way for the 13-22 success that took them back to the head of the Premiership table.

He insisted Dundee were desperately unlucky to miss out on a consolation bonus point at Mayfield, saying: "Every single player put his heart into that performance and the game could really have gone either way in the end. I was delighted with the manner in which we fronted up against the highest-scoring team in the league."

The Taysiders had edged in front with a Barry Jones penalty before Andy Dam went over to give Currie the momentum. High hit back almost immediately when a Chris Cumming surge pressured the Currie markers into giving away a penalty try for a deliberate knock on. Jones added the extras only to see Ross Weston score at the other end to tie up the contest at the break.

Currie stepped up the power after the interval and earned the win thanks to tries by Mark Cairns and Jamie Thomson – with Jones striking another penalty for the hosts.
