Rallying: Bogie keeps his cool to become champion

DUMFRIES youngster David Bogie became the youngest Scottish Rally champion since Colin McRae when he eased himself to fifth place in the nailbiting final round, the Perth-based Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally.

Bogie, 22, admitted: "That was hellish, just hellish.

I knew I only had to finish sixth overall to become champion, but believe me, it's easier to go flat-out for the overall victory than just control your pace and make sure you finish in the top six."

The rally was delayed for more than an hour when the Vauxhall Nova of Fort William's Fraser Wilson and co-driver Steve Broll hit a tree on the opening 10.7-miler at Craigvinean.

Both competitors were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where Broll was kept in overnight with a suspected leg break.
