Queens' O'Connor to retire, aged just 27
QUEEN of the South striker Sean O'Connor has confirmed that he will hang up his boots at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old Englishman, who is in his second spell at Palmerston, has admitted defeat against a knee problem he has been battling since 2002.
Queens manager Gordon Chisholm said: "Sean's a lovely big lad and all the fans, the backroom staff and his fellow players think the world of him. He's been playing through the pain barrier with his knee problem since October and was advised to retire then. But being Sean he soldiered on bravely."
O'Connor, who scored in Queens' famous 4-3 win over Aberdeen in last season's Scottish Cup semi-final and also netted the club's first ever European goal, could make his 180th Queens appearance against Dunfermline at Palmerston on Saturday.
