Queen of the South 2 Partick Thistle 2
SCOTT Chaplain came off the bench to score an equaliser for Partick Thistle in an entertaining match.
A draw was probably a fair result but presented no happy homecoming for former Queen of the South boss Ian McCall.
As the match between St Johnstone and Dunfermline fell foul of the weather Partick Thistle were presented with a great chance to gain ground.
However, it was the home side that broke the deadlock after 11 minutes. Paul Tosh calmly played the ball across the edge of the box for Stephen Dobbie who drilled the ball low past Jonny Tuffey.
Then, out of nothing, Thistle equalised. Gary Harkins' curling free kick seemed to freeze the Queens defence and in nipped Kris Doolan to head home.
Early in the second half a more direct Thistle began to probe Queens' defence. Good play by Harkins set up a chance for Mark Twaddle, but he blasted over the cross bar.
With 55 minutes on the clock David Rowson fouled Harris inside the box. Queens' captain Steve Tosh made no mistake from the spot, sending Tuffey the wrong way and restoring the home side's lead.
In 71 minutes Dobbie could have wrapped it up as he broke into the box, but again Tuffey was there to rescue Thistle.
Thistle's endeavour was rewarded in the 76th minute when Chaplain connected with a loose ball from the edge of the box. His contact was not the cleanest, but the ball bobbled beyond Robinson and into the net.
