Premio Loco rewards trainer with valuable win but unlikely to chase further riches

PREMIO LOCO provided trainer Chris Wall with his most valuable winner of the season at Kempton on Saturday, but the progressive gelding was quickly stated as unlikely to chase further riches in next month's totesport.com Cambridgeshire.

Newmarket-based Wall admits he has lacked the equine talent for the big occasion this year but with Haydock and Leopardstown abandoned, Premio Loco's impressive performance with top weight in the totescoop6 London Mile will have attracted much more attention.

Made the 2-1 favourite by the bookmakers on account of a course-and-distance victory at the end of July which worked out well on the formbook, he streaked an effortless two and a half lengths clear in the home straight under George Baker. There were two Group races on the card and the toteswinger Sirenia Stakes saw a thrilling finish where Elnawin just came out on top.

Although winning less than a fifth of the riches provided in the Newmarket sales race on his previous start, Richard Hannon's colt only got there by the skin of his teeth.

The 6-4 favourite was switched to challenge at the furlong marker but rider Pat Dobbs came to face a little trouble with his reins and he was all out to get past Square Eddie and Weatherstaff by a head and the same. Meanwhile, Neil Callan diverted from Haydock to snap up the winning ride on Hattan in the totesport.com September Stakes.

Clive Brittain's six-year-old clearly likes the all-weather having collected the Winter Derby back in March.
