Powers unveiled as Anderson's opponent for SECC fight night
UNBEATEN Edinburgh super-middleweight prospect Kenny Anderson will clash on March 29 at Glasgow's SECC Arena against Ghanaian opponent Ayitey Powers, writes BRIAN DONALD.
Hailing his management's choice of opponent for the eight-rounder against Powers next month Anderson – who has just recently returned from training in Los Angeles – said: "I don't know a lot about the guy to be honest but I take a lot of comfort from the fact that Powers was knocked out by Welshman Nathan Cleverly in six rounds two years ago.
"Cleverly – who I hope to fight myself soon – just doesn't have the power of punch that I carry so this makes me very confident despite the fact I'll be giving Powers, a light-heavyweight, a weight advantage."
Anderson's ring coach and cornerman Billy Nelson was more cautious, saying: "I saw Powers fighting Welshman Barry Jones and the guy is very powerful and strong so he will give Kenny a decent test which is what he needs at this stage in his career."
The Anderson v Powers bout will add an intriguing bout to the the undercard of the SECC clash between Glasgow's Willie Limond and Coatbridge's Martin Watson for the IBO Continental lightweight title.
