Players 'stuck to task', insists Saltires skipper
GAVIN Hamilton refused to condemn his shoddy Saltires after their Taunton torment yesterday.
The Scots conceded 400 runs for the first time in the competition as Somerset cruised to a 151-run victory in the FP Trophy.
However, Hamilton declared: "We actually stuck to our task pretty well. We had a terrible first ten overs, but nobody let their head go down. We were up against some pretty decent batters on a wicket where runs tend to flow and their 50 overs seemed like an eternity at times as we chased the ball all over the park."
However, Hamilton admitted: "This game shows how far we have to go.
"I think we have stood still since we faced Warwickshire last week and I want to be seeing improvement in every game.
"It's time for Scottish cricket to drive forward and the days of the team scoring 250 just to make it look respectable are over.
"I would rather be all out for 130 or 140 and giving it a real go."
The Saltires, still seeking their first win of the season, continue their FP Trophy campaign against Middlesex at the Citylets Grange on Thursday.
Hopefully, some of the players who did not make the trip to Taunton will be available for the visit of Middlesex to the capital.
