Paterson to miss Heineken Cup clash

STAR full back Chris Paterson has failed a fitness test and misses Edinburgh Rugby's Heineken European Cup visit to London Wasps on Sunday.

Scottish cap record holder Paterson, who has rib damage, is replaced by Hugo Southwell in a team showing three changes from that which lost 16-25 to the English champions last Friday at Murrayfield.

Ross Rennie, suspended up until December 21 following a disciplinary hearing yesterday for a dangerous tackle which the citing officer deemed to be worth more than the yellow card handed out, vacates his flanker's berth for Scott Newlands while, at hooker, Andy Kelly starts ahead of Ross Ford.

Ford was listed earlier this week as having sore ribs but it is felt the internationalist will be able to take up a place on the bench where there are two other changes besides his straight swap for Kelly.

Called up and ready to make his first appearance of the season is Simon Cross while John Houston is also included for the first time since the Celtic League win over Connacht in October.

Edinburgh: Southwell, Robertson, Cairns, De Luca, Webster, Godman, M Blair, captain, Jacobsen, Kelly, G Cross, C Hamilton, J Hamilton, Newlands, Hogg, MacDonald. Subs. – Ford, Kerr, Mustchin, S Cross, Laidlaw, D Blair, Houston.
