Partick Thistle 0 - 1 Cowdenbeath: Survival hopes boosted for Cowdenbeath
COWDENBEATH gave their survival hopes a massive boost with this surprise win at blustery Firhill.
Thistle dominated but found the visiting defence tough to crack. Kris Doolan had a couple of early efforts just off target and the striker went even closer in 22 minutes, but his crisply-struck 25-yard shot shaved David Hay's left-hand upright.
The Jags should have scored when Paul Paton's corner found Ryan McGowan on the six-yard line but his header was straight at Hay. The Blue Brazil went even closer when Greg Stewart's curling effort was destined for the top corner until Scott Fox dived full length to claw it over the bar.
Hay made another fine save to divert McGowan's fierce shot for a corner before Martin Grehan shot tamely at Hay when clean through.
The Fifers cashed in on the let-off with a route-one goal early in the second half. Hay's clearance found Stewart darting towards the Jags box and he out-muscled John Robertson before beating Fox.
McGowan had a point-blank shot blocked by Mark Baxter as Thistle almost hit back immediately, but Beath held firm.
