Summerside up to second after dispatching Postal
Summerside are beginning to build a momentum in their ambition to be a serious challenger for promotion from Division 3 of the Alpha Trophies sponsored Edinburgh Bowling League and last night recorded a 7-2 home win over Postal.
Former Pilrig stars David Poole and Keith Taylor are seen as major assets but have been slow to deliver, however they both paid a winning dividend last night and were supported by fellow skip Paul Jeromson.
Taylor is inspirational in style and the former E&L stalwart carded a 7 that helped him skip Grant Abercrombie, Stuart Ramsay and Peter Miller to a 27-8 win over Ewan Murray.
Poole – a former captain of E&L – skipped Norrie Chalmers, Ged Keegan and Kerr McKail to a 22-14 win over Colin Bain that included a mighty count of 5 at the 12th end to lead 18-9.
Jeromson weighed in with a 16-11 win over Derek Young but Postal did manage to make one impression with Stuart Turnbull inflicting 19-14 pain on Martin Watt.
It’s a result that pushed Summerside up into second place and within one point of West End who remained top of the table with a good 7-2 home over Dudley who occupy fifth place.
Whitehouse & Grange moved up to third place with an impressive 7-2 home win over London Road Foundry who tumbled from second to fourth place. A foot-of-the-table-battle saw Merchiston beat Tramways 6-3.
The Division 3 table reads: West End 41; Summerside 40; W&G 36; LRF 35½; Dudley 29½; Postal 28; Merchiston 22; Tramways 20.
Division 1 leaders Craigentinny scored a 7-2 win away to bottom club Hillside and remain two points ahead of Parkside who enjoyed a 7-2 win at home to relegation zoned Wardie.
Newly-promoted Pilrig helped their survival cause with an excellent 7-2 home win over record six times champion Tanfield while Northern are cock-a-hoop with their 5-4 away win over Queensberry.
The Craigentinny rink wins were delivered by Andy Jeffrey (23-16), Kevin McFarlane (13-10), and Andrew Caldwell (12-11), while rivals Parkside were well served by Robert Donaldson (19-13), Danny Jackson (20-15) and Paul Veitch (14-13).
The Division 1 league table reads: Craigentinny 48; Parkside 46; Northern 36; Pilrig 30; Tanfield 30; Queensberry 26; Wardie 22; Hillside 14.
Blackhall upset the odds with their shock 5-4 away win over Division 2 leaders Goldenacre and another surprise saw bottom club Willowbrae battle to a 5-4 home win over Leith. Dean beat Corstorphine 5-4 and Maitland beat Mayfield 5-4.
The Division 2 table reads: Goldenacre 38; Maitland 35; Dean 35; Leith 35; Mayfield 31; Blackhall 29; Corstorphine 25; Willowbrae 23.
