Shinty: Double cup success for Newtonmore

Newtonmore were celebrating a “beautiful day” on Saturday as their first team strode into the last four of the Camanachd Cup and the seconds lifted the Sutherland Cup.

Norman MacArthur’s first team defeated Lochaber 1-0 to book a semi-final slot in the sport’s major trophy against Kyles next month, which will be broadcast live on BBC Alba.

Fraser MacKintosh scored the only goal in a tight quarter-final, but the holders are on course to retain the trophy and are still in command of the Premier League.

“It is a case of trying to see out the championship and, hopefully, we can land the Camanachd Cup again but we will just see,” said manager MacArthur, cautiously.

’More’s youngsters then lifted the Sutherland Cup after beating Kingussie 5-4.
