Shinty: Beauly lift trophy after 56–year wait
Beauly ended a 56-year wait on Saturday to lift the Strathdearn Cup, watched by some surviving members of the last winning side.
On a squally day in Invergarry, the Braeview outfit survived a first-half goal by Fort William’s Scott Knox to stretch away in the second half.
Connor Ross responded in 47 minutes before Shaun Stewart, recovering from a serious ankle injury, netted twice.
The club has waited a long time to savour cup honours. It was made all the more sweet by the attendance of some of the ’56 winning team at the final. “We managed to get a few photos with three of the winning team from 1956 at the end and that was a nice touch,” said club president, David Calder.
In the Bullough Cup final, Lochside Rovers beat Ballachulish 6-2 at An Aird.
