Shinty: Age no barrier for Kyles’ MacDonald
Kenny MacDonald proved there is no substitute for experience on Saturday as two match-winning saves helped guide Kyles Athletic into the final of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup.
The 50 year-old was all over his goalmouth, breaking Newtonmore’s hearts with two saves in particular, executed with his feet, proving that age has not blunted his reflexes.
Danny MacRae did manage to score just before half time but by then Kyles were already 2-0 ahead through Thomas Whyte and Roddy MacDonald.
After that, the Tighnabruaich outfit managed to shut up shop and the 2-1 result gives them a crack at Inveraray on September 15th at Mossfield Park.
“Kenny is a Kyles legend,” said Perlich yesterday, in need of a refreshing brew after some lively celebrations on Saturday.
“His hit-outs were incredible and the two saves he made were the kind that win or lose big games.
“Basically, we have told him he can only retire when we tell him.”
