Rocks hold on to topple Giants for five in a row

BASKETBALL: Glasgow Rocks made it five wins in a row last night by beating Manchester Giants 83-77. Donald Robinson had a game-high 25 points as the visitors produced a decisive third-quarter surge after grinding out a 38-36 half-time lead. But Glasgow had to withstand a late rally by Manchester before holding on.

The Rocks now face Leicester Riders tomorrow at the Emirates Arena, with recent signing Mike Ringgold vowing to repay coach Sterling Davis for dragging him off the dole queue and back into basketball.

The American centre ended a ten-month stint out of the game when he landed in Glasgow last month, and he said: “I’m excited to be back. There’s nothing I love doing more. It’s made me appreciate this opportunity because so many of my friends were away overseas playing and I was sitting at home.”

Newcastle secured a spot in next month’s BBL Cup final despite an 89-77 loss to Plymouth in the second leg of their semi-final.
