MacArthur bows out with third–successive title

Shinty: Striker Glen MacKintosh believes Norman MacArthur will be a hard act to follow after the outgoing Newtonmore boss celebrated with shinty’s title in his final match on Saturday.

Newtonmore needed a point to secure their third-successive championship but got two with a 2-0 win over Glenurquhart in Drumnadrochit.

Danny MacRae and Chris Sellar got the scores on an emotional day. And forward MacKintosh reckons that whoever takes over next term will be following a club legend.

“The players couldn’t speak highly enough of the manager,” said MacKintosh. “He has done a great job. Three league titles in a row is a great achievement and he will be a hard act to follow. We gave him a good send-off and I am sure there will be a presentation at the end-of-season event.”

MacArthur guided Newtonmore to their first Premier League title and the first Camanachd Cup for a quarter of a century. He will retain a position on the club committee.
