Ice Hockey: Jarolin has that little bit extra for Capitals
EDINBURGH CAPITALS are off the bottom of the Elite League although their Challenge Cup hopes took a nose-dive last night.
The Murrayfield ice hockey side edged Fife Flyers 3-2 on Saturday in the league thanks to a goal from Rene Jarolin three minutes into the extra period. The strike confirmed back-to-back wins for the first time in almost a year. It was also Edinburgh’s first road win since February 13 2010, a run of 39 games.
Last night, Jeff Hutchins came back to haunt his former Capitals team-mates with a killer goal as Dundee CCS Stars won 7-3. The Edinburgh-based hitman kept faith with Capitals after last season’s mass walkout of players but Canadian-born Hutchins switched to Dundee in the close-season and he slotted Stars’ fifth strike in the Challenge Cup clash at Murrayfield. Two more goals then hit the Murrayfield rigging in a game in which Stars outshot Capitals 28-18.
