Students hit a Brum note

EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY hockey team’s run into the last eight of the British Universities and Colleges Sport Cup came to an end yesterday against their Birmingham counterparts.

The Scots were beaten 5-2 at Peffermill by a strong Midlands outfit which contained four members of the English under-21 side and Scotland under-21 cap Tom Merchant.

Birmingham were 3-0 ahead at the break before Neil Fulton netted from a rebound after a penalty corner 15 minutes into the second half.

The visitors then scored twice before Jay Harman netted with two minutes remaining.
