Hockey: Scottish trio help GB to silver lining
GREAT Britain women’s squad had to settle for the silver medal when they lost 3-2 to Korea in the final of the four nations tournament in Cordoba, Argentina.
Scots goalkeeper Abi Walker played in the final in place of Beth Storry and compatriots Emily Maguire and Laura Bartlett also featured.
GB scored through Leicester’s Crista Cullen in nine minutes but the lead lasted only two minutes before Mi Hyun Park equalised. Ok Ju Kim gave the Koreans the lead just before half-time and struck again ten minutes into the second-half. GB hit back when Slough’s Ashleigh Ball scrambled the ball in but Korean held on.
Afterwards, GB coach Danny Kerry said: “I feel for the girls because they played so well and gave everything.”
Hosts Argentina took bronze after defeating New Zealand 3-2.
Kerry’s charges now move on to Rosario for the FIH Champions Trophy against Japan, China and world No 1 the Netherlands.
