GB to face Korea again in last eight
Great Britain women will play Korea in the quarter-finals of the Champions Trophy in Rosario this evening as the tournament moves into the knockout stages.
In previous Champions Trophies GB, having finished second in their pool to the Netherlands, would have moved directly into the semi-finals but the new format puts all the qualifiers into quarter-finals with the losers consigned to the play-offs for fifth to eighth places.
Korea were third in pool B after drawing 2-2 with hosts Argentina in their final game and GB coach Danny Kerry’s side are favourites. It will be the third meeting between the sides in a fortnight. In the four nations tournament in Cordoba, GB won a pool match 3-1 but lost but 3-2 to the Koreans in the final.
Kerry said: “I think we have been consistent over the first three matches, especially in the hot conditions. Against China we were better but we could still attack more. I’m reasonably happy with the three matches.”
The other quarter-finals see the Netherlands against New Zealand, Germany take on Japan and Argentina in an interesting tussle with China.
