CALA Edinburgh ‘working their socks off’ despite relegation

CALA EDINBURGH have slipped out of Scotland’s indoor hockey elite but their concentration this season has been on preserving their Division One status outdoors.

The Edinburgh side, who won a play-off with Glasgow outfit Hillhead to move up to Division One last season, have failed to win a game so far this term and have accumulated only one point from 12 starts.

They were whipped 16-1 by long-time league pace-setters Grove Menzieshill in their opening game at Perth, then lost 8-4 to Clydesdale and were beaten 9-1 by Dundee Wanderers.

David Guy, one of their senior players, said: “We’ve had problems getting a team out but the guys that have turned out have worked their socks off.”

Inverleith, the defending champions, kept on Grove’s coat-tails with a 13-1 victory over Kelburne, the outdoor champions, a 10-1 mauling of Dundee Wanderers and a 16-1 victory over Clydesdale. Their only defeat this term was against Grove, but they do have a superior goal advantage.
