Fraser on fishing: Prizes aplenty at Loganlea
I was pleased to accept a place in a free competition at Loganlea fishery courtesy of Ferrier Pumps recently, writes STUART FRASER.
It was the only competition I have been in that I never knew exactly who won or what team did what. That said, it was a terrific day and well organised. Anglers fished from both boat and bank and there was a three-fish kill limit before going on to catch and release.
I got off to a flyer and bagged up in under an hour with fish around 3lb. I stayed with a floating line despite a cold blustery wind and heavy showers. I had a mini yellow dancer on the point with a sunburst blob on the bob and tequila blob on the top dropper. We were drifting close down the far bank and I could not believe the amount of follows, offers and savage takes. After getting my limit bag and weighing in we went back out and I picked up another six on catch and release.
I was fortunate to have a drogue on hand this helped greatly when I was able to fish the flies at various depths and speeds. After a lengthy weigh-in, prizes were handed out to almost everyone and a bottle of beer and sandwiches were handed all round. It was great day and the only thing that marred the session is the terrible state of the road that leads up to the water which needs repaired urgently.
