Laird steps up to plate

Capital curler Annie Laird proved an able deputy for absent European champion Eve Muirhead as Muirhead’s team went unbeaten in their first two group matches at the Glynhill International in Glasgow yesterday, writes LORIN MCDOUGALL.

Laird stepped in while Muirhead was making her way back from the Youth Winter Olympics in Austria, but it took a single at the final end to secure an opening 4-4 draw with Swiss skip Binia Feltscher. The Scots then beat Latvia’s Stasa Sarsune 6-3 thanks to a triple at the seventh end to consolidate their position in Pool D.
