Finalists emerge from qualifiers

CURLING: After the second round of qualifiers, the line-up for next month’s Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish men’s Curling Championship has become clear. Champion Tom Brewster, from Aberdeen, has been given a bye and is now joined by Murrayfield’s John Hamilton, who won Group A of the qualifying event ahead of Inverness’s Ewan MacDonald.

Group B qualifiers were Perth’s David Smith, Stranraer’s Jay McWilliam and Lockerbie’s David Murdoch. In Group C, Stirling’s Logan Gray was joined by Lockerbie’s Graeme Black and Aberdeen’s David Edwards. The final slot will be decided by tie-breakers among Forfar’s Duncan Menzies, Blair Fraser, from Inverness, and Murrayfield’s Struan Macnee.

In the Glynhill International Ladies event at Braehead, Mirjam Ott beat fellow-Swiss Michele Jaggi 7-4.
