Curling: Ross Hepburn slips in final

Edinburgh curler Ross Hepburn fell at the final hurdle at the Scottish Championships in Perth yesterday, while fellow “lead” Colin Campbell endured a hugely-frustrating weekend.

Campbell had helped Aberdeen skip David Edwards to win his first eight round-robin matches and only defeat to Tom Brewster denied them a clean sweep, but it was so a different in the knock-out stages. First, Hepburn and Perth skip David Smith beat Team Edwards 8-5 before Campbell and Co wasted their second chance to make the final when bogeyman Brewster eliminated them 6-2.

Brewster went on retain his title by edging Hepburn and Smith 5-2 in a low-scoring final.
