Curling: Scotland win twice to stay in title hunt

Scotland kept their world title campaign right on track with two more wins yesterday as the round-robin stage of the Titlis Glacier Mountain World Women’s Curling Championships in Latvia came to an end.

They beat Russia 9-2 in their morning game and followed that up with an 8-4 win over USA. The Scots have now won nine games in a row and go straight into this evening’s Page one versus two play-off, where they will face Sweden who, like Scotland finished with a won ten, lost one record. The one game that Sweden did win was against Scotland last Sunday, so they go into the Page game with last-stone advantage.

Under curling’s Page system, the winner of the one versus two game goes straight to Sunday’s final, while the loser has a second chance to get there against the winner of the Page three versus four play-off.

After the USA game, Scotland skip Eve Muirhead said: “The first job was to qualify for the 1-2 and that’s what we’ve done. We didn’t want to come out and have a slack game, so it was good to keep strong and finish dominantly.”
