Curling: Ross Hepburn still in hunt

Edinburgh curler Ross Hepburn went desperately close to ending holder Tom Brewster’s unbeaten record at the Scottish Championship
Finals in Perth last night.

Hepburn and local veteran Warwick Smith led the world silver medallist 7-5 but were taken to an extra end where Brewster prevailed 8-7 to stretch his winning run to six round-robin matches.

Smith and Hepburn remain in contention with four wins out of six after an earlier 5-4 win over Kinross skip Ross McCleary.

Capital curler Colin Campbell and Aberdeen’s David Edwards have an identical record, despite following their 8-3 win over junior champion Kyle Smith with a 4-3 extra-end
defeat to Stirling’s Logan Gray.

Murrayfield’s Kerry Barr stunned former world champion Jackie Lockhart 6-2 before losing her second match out of four after crashing 10-5 to Jenny Martin. Club-mate Gina Aitken is still empty-handed following defeats to Lauren Baxter and world junior champion Hannah Fleming.
