Curling: It’s tight at the top in junior title race

AFTER six round-robin sessions of the Scottish Junior Men’s Curling Championship at Curl Aberdeen, Stranraer’s Jay McWilliam and Perth’s Kyle Smith are tied at the top of the round-robin rankings, each undefeated on five wins.

Both had wins over Inverness outfits yesterday, McWilliam beating Ruaridh Greenwood 7-4, while Smith was a 10-6 winner over Blair Fraser. They face each other this morning.

In the women’s event, Murrayfield’s Jennifer Dodds, Lockerbie’s Hannah Fleming and Lanarkshire’s Hazel Smith all share a won-four, lost-one record after five sessions. Yesterday, Dodds beat Stranraer’s Katie Wright 8-3 and Fleming prevailed 9-5 over Jennifer Martin, from Kilmarnock’s Galleon Centre. Smith beat Forfar’s Lesley Young 5-4.
