Curling: Beaten city curlers still in the hunt

Edinburgh curlers Colin Campbell and Ross Hepburn are still well-placed despite
losing their unbeaten records at the Scottish Championship Finals in Perth yesterday.

Campbell and Aberdeen skip David Edwards followed up Monday’s two round-robin wins with a 6-3 morning victory over Hammy McMillan. They
returned to the Dewars Centre last night for a heavyweight clash with defending champion Tom Brewster, and it was the world silver medallist who emerged with his 100 per cent record intact as Brewster won 5-4 after an extra end.

Hepburn and Perth veteran Warwick Smith suffered an 8-3 defeat to another local player, Glen Muirhead, but recovered to beat Scottish junior champion Kyle Smith 8-6, again after an extra end.

Murrayfield’s Kerry Barr bounced back from Monday’s narrow defeat to outclass Lauren Baxter (Greenacres) 10-3, but club-mate Gina Aitken lost again, beaten 8-6 by Jenny Martin (Greenacres).
