British Judo pick Andrew Scoular as new chief

The British Judo Association has confirmed the key appointments of Andrew Scoular as chief executive and Nigel Donohue as performance director.

The BJA is under the stewardship of chairman Kerrith Brown following the London Olympics where, despite disruption behind the scenes which saw the elite coaching staff replaced, the Team GB squad won a silver and bronze medal – their first Games success since Sydney 2000.

Scoular joined the BJA in October 2011 as chief operating officer before assuming the position of acting chief executive following the departure of Scott McCarthy late last year. Former European champion Donohue steps into his role after spells as national coach with Judo Scotland and as England’s lead coach.

Brown said: “It was vital for us to appoint somebody who could not only offer stability but also have the vision to lead British Judo forward. In his period as acting chief executive, Andrew has displayed good leadership, has worked excellently with staff and stakeholders and has considered the members of the association in every decision, changing the mind set of the organisation and building for a very positive future.”
