Bowls: West Lothian to face Prestwick in semis

West Lothian and Prestwick will clash in the semi-finals of the men’s national fours championships at Fraserburgh next month, and Garioch will meet Ardrossan while Galleon will meet Arbroath and Coatbridge will face Abbeyview in the semi-finals of the women’s event.

From the weekend playdowns West Lothian’s line-up of Bryan Cooper, James Speirs, Tommy Mann and skip Neil Speirs saw off Midlothian 19-16. And world number 1 Paul Foster saw his team of Joe McGinlay, Paul Boyd and Craig Lindsay safely over the finishing line by 20-11 against Stuart Pagan’s Abbeyview team.

Lee Collins skipped his Garioch rink to success in the North Section, wrapping up with a 26-20 win ahead of Scott Murray’s Dundee, while Ardrossan came through after a narrow 21-19 win over Barry Nixon’s Irvine side.

In the Taylor Bowls women’s league, Galleon beat Whiteinch by 20-19 and they then went on to see off Fintry 24-15. Arbroath beat Garioch 24-19, while Coatbridge edged Perth 17-15 and Abbeyview overcame Blantyre by 20-10.
