Bowls: Scotland finish second in Home Internationals

SCOTLAND suffered disappointment in the Men’s Home International series in Llandrindod Wells and had to settle for second best behind new champions Wales.

They started off with a hard-fought 115-96 victory over the auld enemy, winning on the rinks skipped by team captain Paul Foster, Grant Logan, Graeme Archer and Neil Speirs, while Darren Burnett lost by four and Alex Marshall by six.

However, Wales met them full on in the second match and although the Scots held a 26-22 lead after the first quarter, the hosts switched gears and and eventually won 128-93. This time, only Marshall and Logan posted winning scores.

Wales maintained their unbeaten record, with a 121-116 win over England to take the title, while, while Scotland signed off with a consolation 119-101 win over Ireland.

Ewan Shearer, Iain McLean, Robert Marshall and skip Grant Logan were Scotland’s top rink, winning all three of their matches.
