Bowls: Porty head to Dundee for Scottish Cup showdown
Portobello embark on the indoor bowls Scottish Cup trail tomorrow at neutral venue Dundee to take on Fraserburgh in the prelim round.
Both clubs share Division 1 status with the form lines of the recently completed league campaigns seeming to favour Portobello, who were just piped by a single point when finishing second to Abbeyview (Dunfermline) in the C section.
Fraserburgh finished third behind Garioch and Turriff in the A section some six points adrift of the leader having won just three of their eight games – all at home – which is perhaps encouraging for Porty.
Team organiser Robert Wood continues to be sidelined from the action due to health issues but he is excited by his introduction of teenager Liam McKay, who makes his Scottish Cup debut.
Wood is also delighted to recall Postal outdoor star Neal Rooney, who enjoys Edinburgh & Leith Under-25 status during the summer season but has missed several recent winters on the carpet.
Portobello:
Rink 1: Ian Fleming, Barry Smythe, Kevin Hunter, George Johnston.
Rink 2: Ross Thomson, Liam McKay, Jamie Reid, Stuart Betts.
Rink 3: Neal Rooney, Dean Mackintosh, Gordon Bold, Chris Steven.
Rink 4: Josh Spalding, David Brown, Billy Dunleavey, Andrew Caldwell.
Reserves: Andy Davie, David McLeod, Euan Murray.
