Bowls: Paul Foster keeps bid for fifth title on track
PAUL Foster will tomorrow continue his quest for a fifth world indoor singles title, to equal his world pairs partner Alex Marshall.
Yesterday, at the Potters Leisure Resort in Norfolk, the 39-year-old from Troon brushed aside the challenge of No 10 seed Jason Greenslade to progress to the quarter-finals.
He set the standard with a treble on the first end and won the opening set 10-3 with five shots over the last three ends. With the score poised at 4-3 after four ends of the second set, a bad bowl by Greenslade left the door open for Foster to roll in a full house for an 8-3 lead and he went on to make it 10-4 for a straight-sets victory.
Foster said later “I got off to a flier on the first end and that settled me. My line and length came together from my first bowl so I was happy with my form.”
Foster will play No 7 seed Mervyn King on Friday after he beat No 14 seed Jonathan Ross of Paisley 7-6, 4-14, 2-0 last night.
Midlothian’s Colin Walker bids for a quarter-final spot today when he takes on Australian qualifier Ray Pearse.
