Bowls: Northern reach for safety while putting Wardie in the mire

Northern bowlers did wonders for their survival prospects in Division 1 of the Alpha Trophies Edinburgh Bowling League with a 7-2 win at home to relegation strugglers Wardie last night.

Wins for the rinks skipped by Gordon Wilson Jnr, Jamie Reid and Mike Burns made for a happy home camp with George Prentice the only loser at the hands of Larry Sorrell. Wilson inspired the charge to victory by skipping Gary Harrison, Darren Prentice and Davy Scott to a thumping 24-4 win over Jimmy Glasgow.

Reid lost a 6 at the last but still managed to inflict a 24-16 defeat on John Duncan while Burns stepped up the pace from 9-10 to beat Ross Wyllie 19-12 while Prentice slipped from 
10-10 to a 15-12 defeat from Sorrell.
