Bowls: Mixed results for Logan clan in District 14 semi-finals

Bo’ness champion bowler Ewan Shearer clipped the wings of his international colleague Grant Logan of Kirkliston 21-11 in last night’s Singles battle of the giants in the semi-finals of the District 14 national championships at Queensferry.

Shearer broke a 6-6 deadlock with a 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 3 acceleration to 14 then remained on top to set up a finals night clash with John Kerr of Armadale who beat Brian Campbell of Ratho, 21-15 at Bathgate.

Calum Logan enjoyed a better outcome than his cousin, clinching a 21-19 win in the Junior Singles over Ryan Millar of Buchan Park in a 27-end battle. Logan answered immense pressure at 15-11 down with a 2, 1, 1, 4, 1 acceleration to 20 but faced renewed menace at 20-19 before carding the winning single to set up a clash with Steven Fleming of Buchan Park who beat Willie Boreland of East Calder, 21-14.

More drama for the Logan clan saw Raymond and his lead Davy Masterton standing peels at 17-17 before losing out to a last-end double for Colin McConachy and Sandy McDougall of Glenmavis at Bathgate.

But Greg Logan made it through to the final of the Fours when playing second in the rink of Steven Forrest, Mark Allison and Neil Speirs they beat Alec Allan of Newbridge, 18-16.
