Bowls: Bainfield bid for top form at Falkirk

The ability of newly promoted Bainfield bowling club to survive in the elite indoor scene will be tested at Falkirk tomorrow in the A section of the Jack High Insurance Premier League.

Falkirk reached the play-off final last season and Bainfield team manager John Bell warned: “It will take a peak performance from us to live with them on their own carpet.”

Bainfield’s bid has been boosted by the return to fitness of team father figure Alan Brown who will play third to Gavin Smith with Chris Downie and Stephen Pringle forming the front-end.

Midlothian play host to defending champions West Lothian at Dalkeith and team manager Frank Gray makes positional changes with Drew Pearson leading to Billy Peacock, and Scott Matthews filling the same role to David Peacock.

West Lothian travel without Stuart Johnston and James Speirs resulting in a call up for David Wilson Snr and Dougie Mitchell.

East Lothian have home advantage against Coatbridge but have to cope with the absence of Jamie Gordon and Youth Cap Kieran Simants.

Andy Jeffrey makes a welcome return and lines up at third to Billy Mellors while Callum Darling and Luke Newlands make debuts as a new front-end for Dougie Berwick and team captain Graham Robertson. David Sked moves to the reserve bench.

Portobello were fixture free last weekend so they launch their campaign in Division 1C with a home game against a Tweedbank side that walloped Headwell by 50 shots last
weekend.
