Basketball: Ex-Kings on Dons roster

Two ex-Kings juniors, Niall Mackle and Matt Wilcox, will be vital members of the Aberdeen University team which hosts Troon Tornadoes in the Scottish Cup tomorrow.

Mackle is returning for his second year having earned Scottish Universities representation last season while Wilcox, another Scottish junior cap, is a fresher with a lot of potential.

One possible snag however: so far the team have no coach.

Now where have we heard that before? Olympic legacy hampered by lack of coaches?

Another former Kings junior West Calder’s Ross Paterson will be in the Glasgow University line-up for their home cup-tie with Aberdeen Grampian
league side Beacon Jazz tomorrow.

Paterson had a testing time against Falkirk Fury’s “twin towers” Ronnie Gordon and Stu MacKay in last Saturday’s Scottish League game but is another who could be in line for Scottish Universities should the annual Four Nations Tournament go ahead next spring.
