Basketball: Capital clubs kept apart

Edinburgh Kings and Boroughmuir Blaze have avoided each other in the draw for the Scottish senior men’s cup, which has been made right through to the final, to be played in the New Year.

Not everyone is happy with the open draw format which was begun last season and means that potential finalists can be ousted at an early stage as was the case when previous holders Kings crashed out at home last year to eventual winners Falkirk Fury.

This year, Kings open at home to third-ranked St Mirren on September 29, with potential futher ties against Troon Tornadoes and a possible semi-final against Falkirk Fury.

Blaze are in the bottom half, open at home to Stirling Knights on September 29 and could face Glasgow University in the semis before a possible Capital derby in the final.
